The Sphinx's Secret Pool
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's backyard, especially the old swimming pool that had been empty for years. One hot afternoon, she noticed something strange — an orange glow flickering at the bottom of the empty pool.
Curious, she climbed down the ladder and discovered a small orange crystal pulsing like a tiny heart. As soon as she touched it, the empty pool transformed into a magnificent oasis filled with sparkling blue water.
"Hello, young friend," a rumbly voice echoed.
Lily gasped. Rising from the water was a magnificent sphinx, but not like the ones in books. This sphinx had bright orange wings and kind, twinkling eyes.
"I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find my crystal," the sphinx said. "Will you play padel with me?"
Lily had never heard of a sphinx playing padel before. "What's padel?"
The sphinx chuckled and magical racquets appeared in their hands. "It's a game of friendship and fun!"
They played for hours, hitting a magical ball that changed colors with every hit. Lily laughed so much her sides hurt. The sphinx taught her that winning wasn't important — what mattered was playing together with joy in your heart.
As the sun began to set, the sphinx grew serious. "Lily, you've shown me something wonderful. You played with kindness and curiosity. That's the greatest magic of all."
The pool began to transform back, but the sphinx pressed something into Lily's hand — a small orange crystal just like the first one.
"Keep this, dear friend. Whenever you feel lonely or afraid, hold it tight. Remember that magic lives in kindness, courage, and the friends we make along the way."
Lily climbed out of the pool, now empty again. But in her pocket glowed the orange crystal, and in her heart lived the memory of her extraordinary friend.
She ran inside to tell her grandmother everything, already planning her next visit to the magical pool. Some adventures, she knew, were just beginning.
