The Sphinx's Secret Pool
Leo loved exploring his grandmother's garden. Among the roses and sunflowers, he found a hidden path he'd never noticed before. It wound behind the old oak tree and opened into a tiny clearing where something magical sparkled in the sunlight.
A pool the size of a bathtub shimmered with rainbow-colored water. But the most amazing surprise was what sat beside it—a tiny sphinx no bigger than a cat, with emerald-green wings and gentle amber eyes.
"Welcome, young explorer," the sphinx said in a voice like wind chimes. "I've been waiting for someone to find my secret pool."
Leo's eyes widened. "You can talk?"
"All magical creatures can," the sphinx replied. "But I'm lonely. My pool makes dreams come true, but I need a true friend to share its magic."
The sphinx looked sad. Leo remembered the fresh spinach he'd picked from Grandmother's garden earlier—it was her favorite vegetable to grow. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the bright green leaves.
"Would you like some spinach?" Leo asked. "My grandmother says fresh vegetables make everything better."
The sphinx's eyes lit up. "Spinach! My absolute favorite!" She ate the leaves happily, then did a happy spin in the air. "Thank you, Leo! You're the kindest person I've ever met."
The sphinx touched her nose to Leo's forehead, and suddenly he could see tiny glowing fish swimming in the rainbow pool. Dreams floated inside the water like clouds—a butterfly's wish to fly higher, a flower's dream to bloom all year round.
"Your sharing made the magic stronger," the sphinx explained. "Friendship is the greatest magic of all."
That summer, Leo visited his sphinx friend every day, bringing fresh spinach and listening to the dreams that floated in the magical pool. He learned that kindness and friendship could create wonders more amazing than any spell.
And when he had to go back to school, the sphinx gave him a small pouch of magical spinach seeds. "Plant these wherever you go," she whispered, "and you'll always find magic and new friends."
Leo smiled, knowing that adventure and friendship were waiting wherever kindness bloomed.
