The Sphinx's Secret Pool
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's garden, especially on hot summer days. The garden held many secrets, but the most magical one was hidden behind the old banana trees.
One afternoon, while chasing a blue butterfly, Lily pushed through the leaves and discovered something wonderful. A crystal-clear **pool** sparkled in the sunlight, surrounded by flowers that seemed to glow. But what made Lily gasp was what sat beside the water.
A small **sphinx**, no bigger than a cat, rested on a mossy stone. It had the body of a lion and the face of a wise old creature, with feathers the color of sunset.
"Hello, young one," the sphinx said in a voice like rustling leaves. "I've been waiting for someone who loves to explore."
Lily's eyes widened. "You can talk!"
"All magical creatures can talk," the sphinx replied with a gentle smile. "My name is Amber. This is my special pool. It shows dreams to those who are kind and curious."
Amber waved her paw, and the pool's water shimmered like liquid silver. Lily leaned closer and saw images dancing in the water—children playing, animals helping each other, and something that made her stomach growl.
"Is that... **papaya**?" Lily asked, seeing the golden-orange fruit in the reflection.
Amber nodded. "Papayas are the fruit of friendship. In my homeland, when friends share papaya, their bond grows stronger. Would you like to see something magical?"
Lily nodded eagerly.
Amber reached behind her wing and pulled out a perfectly ripe papaya. With a gentle touch, she sliced it open. The inside was filled with tiny seeds that sparkled like stars.
"Make a wish while eating a piece," Amber whispered, "and share the rest with someone you love."
Lily took a bite. It tasted like sunshine and happiness. She wished that everyone could have a friend like Amber. Then she remembered her grandmother, who always shared everything she had.
"Can I share this with Grandma?" Lily asked.
Amber's golden eyes shone with pride. "That is exactly why I chose you, Lily. True magic isn't just in magical creatures—it's in sharing what you love with others."
That evening, Lily and her grandmother sat together, eating the magical papaya as the sun set. The grandmother laughed as Lily told her about Amber and the dream pool.
And every time Lily visited the garden after that, she brought papayas to share with Amber, learning that the best magic is the magic of friendship and generosity.
