The Sphinx's Secret Pool

Lily loved exploring her grandmother's attic. Rainy afternoons were perfect for treasure hunts among dusty boxes and ancient trunks. Today, something glittered caught her eye—a small golden pyramid no bigger than her palm, with mysterious carvings that seemed to shimmer.

"What's this?" Lily whispered, tracing the smooth surface. Suddenly, the pyramid glowed warm in her hands, and she felt herself spinning, spinning, until she tumbled onto soft golden sand.

Before her stood a magnificent creature with the body of a lion and the head of a wise human. A sphinx! But this sphinx had kind, twinkling eyes.

"Welcome, young explorer," the sphinx spoke in a voice like gentle bells. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find my pyramid."

Lily's eyes widened. "Are you... real?"

"As real as your imagination," the sphinx smiled. "Would you like to see my secret?" She waved her paw, and the sand beneath them transformed into a crystal-clear pool reflecting starlight even though it was daytime.

"This is my magical pool," said the sphinx. "Here, you can go swimming through dreams and memories. But first, you must answer my riddle."

Lily nodded eagerly.

"What has no weight but can carry you anywhere? What costs nothing but is worth everything?"

Lily thought carefully, remembering her grandmother's words. Then it came to her. "Imagination!"

"Correct!" The sphinx's mane sparkled with delight. "You understand the most important secret of all. Now, swim with me, and I'll show you wonders."

Together, they splashed into the magical pool. Lily wasn't afraid—even though she was still learning swimming lessons at home, here she floated weightless as a feather. They swam through galaxies of twinkling stars, past mountains made of candy, over forests where trees grew books instead of leaves.

"The pyramid brought you here," the sphinx explained, "but your imagination opened the door. Remember, Lily—the real magic isn't in golden objects or secret pools. It's inside you, always."

When Lily returned to the attic, the golden pyramid was still in her hand. But now she knew the truth—any adventure she wanted was just a daydream away. The real treasure hadn't been the magical journey at all.

It was the discovery that her own imagination was the most powerful magic of all.
