The Sphinx's Secret Pool

Lily loved exploring the woods behind her house. One sunny afternoon, she discovered something magical—a crystal-clear pool hidden among ancient oak trees. The water sparkled like diamonds, and the air smelled of jasmine and magic.

But the most amazing surprise was what lay beside the pool. A magnificent creature rested on a mossy rock—half lion, half human, with golden wings folded at her sides. A sphinx!

"Welcome, young explorer," the sphinx said in a voice like wind chimes. "I am Aurora, guardian of this enchanted pool. Few children find their way here."

Lily's eyes widened. "You're real! I thought sphinxes only lived in stories!"

Aurora smiled mysteriously. "We live wherever imagination dwells. This pool holds special magic—the water grants courage to those who swim with pure hearts."

The sphinx stretched her golden wings. "But first, you must answer my riddle: What has to be broken before you can use it?"

Lily thought hard. She remembered her breakfast that morning. "An egg!"

"Correct!" Aurora's laughter rippled like the pool's gentle waves. "You may swim."

Together, they splashed into the cool water. Aurora taught Lily to swim like a mermaid, diving through rainbow-colored bubbles that tasted like strawberry dreams. The pool felt alive—it hugged Lily with warmth, and every stroke filled her with bravery.

"Why does the pool give courage?" Lily asked between splashes.

Aurora's golden eyes twinkled. "Because trying something new takes courage. Every time you swim in unknown waters, you grow stronger. Remember this: the bravest thing isn't never being scared—it's being scared and swimming anyway."

As the sun began to set, Aurora dried Lily's wings—I mean, her arms—with a soft puff of magic.

"Visit whenever you need courage," the sphinx whispered. "The pool will always be here for those who believe."

Lily ran home, her heart full of magic. She had discovered that friendship comes in all shapes and sizes, even with ancient mythical creatures. And whenever she felt scared of trying new things, she remembered swimming with Aurora, finding her courage one magical stroke at a time.
