The Sphinx's Secret Pool
Lily was the best spy in the whole neighborhood. At least, that's what she told herself every Saturday night when she put on her safari hat and grabbed her trusty butterfly net. Tonight was special—tonight she was going to solve the mystery of the glowing light in Mrs. Abernathy's garden.
She tiptoed across the lawn, her heart beating faster than a hummingbird's wings. Through the bushes she peeked, and what she saw made her gasp.
A pool shimmered in the moonlight, but not any ordinary pool. This one glowed with colors like captured rainbows. And beside it sat something incredible—a sphinx! But instead of being made of stone, this sphinx had soft golden fur, wise emerald eyes, and wings that sparkled like morning dew.
"I've been waiting for you, little spy," the sphinx purred gently. "My name is Cleo."
Lily stepped forward, forgetting all about being sneaky. "You're real?"
"As real as friendship," Cleo smiled. "This is the Pool of Wishes. Every moonlight, I grant one pure heart's wish. But first, you must meet my friend."
From behind the old oak tree lumbered a enormous bear—except he was wearing a polka-dotted bowtie and carrying a silver tray with honey cakes.
"I'm Barnaby!" the bear said, his voice rumbly and warm. "Would you like a wish-cake? They help wishes come true!"
Lily took a cake. It tasted like sunshine and birthday parties. "I wish..." she thought carefully. "I wish for adventures that I could share with friends."
Cleo's wings glowed brighter. "A wish for friendship is the most powerful wish of all."
From that night on, Lily was still a spy—but now she had the best partners anyone could imagine. Together with Cleo and Barnaby, she discovered that the best adventures aren't the ones you have alone. They're the ones where magical friends help make ordinary nights extraordinary.
And somewhere, in a garden full of secrets, the Pool of Wishes still glows—waiting for the next heart brave enough to wish for something wonderful.
