The Sphinx's Secret Pool

Leo lay on his stomach in the grass, spinning his mom's old iphone round and round. The screen reflected the clouds—fluffy white shapes drifting across a bright blue sky.

Suddenly, the screen shimmered like water. Leo gasped as his reflection smiled back at him, then reached through the glass and pulled him inside!

He tumbled onto warm golden sand. Before him rose a magnificent pyramid, its stones gleaming like honey in the sun. But the most amazing thing was the creature guarding its base—a sphinx with the body of a lion and the face of a wise woman.

"Welcome, young traveler," the sphinx purred. "I have waited many years for someone pure of heart."

Leo's knees trembled. "Where am I?"

"This is the Pyramid of Wishes," said the sphinx. "At its peak lies the enchanted Pool of Truth. Many have tried to reach it, but only those who show courage and kindness may succeed."

A snort echoed behind them. A massive golden bull stepped from behind the pyramid. Its horns gleamed like polished amber, and its eyes were gentle and sad.

"This is my brother," the sphinx explained. "A curse turned him into a bull. Only the Pool of Truth can break the spell."

Leo looked at the bull's kind eyes. "I'll help you reach the top!"

The climb was hard. The pyramid's stones were hot under Leo's sneakers. Halfway up, he slipped and nearly fell, but the bull lowered its massive shoulder, letting Leo climb onto its back.

Together, they reached the peak. There, sparkling like liquid starlight, was the most beautiful pool Leo had ever seen.

The bull gazed into the water. Leo saw its reflection change—the bull's form rippled and transformed into a tall, strong man with golden hair and the same kind eyes.

"Thank you," the man said, his voice deep and warm. He pressed something into Leo's hand—a small golden scarab beetle. "Whenever you need courage, hold this and remember."

The sphinx hugged her brother. Then she touched Leo's forehead with her paw.

Leo woke in the grass, the iphone still clutched in his hand. The screen showed his normal reflection. But when he looked at his palm, there it was—a tiny golden scarab, warm as sunshine.

Leo smiled. Some adventures are real, even when they happen in the blink of an eye.
