The Sphinx's Secret Pool
Lila loved running through the Whispering Woods, her bare feet padding softly on the mossy path. Every afternoon after school, she would race the golden sunlight as it danced through the leaves. But today, something magical happened.
Behind a curtain of ivy, she discovered a hidden pool that sparkled like liquid stars. And sitting beside it was the most unusual creature she had ever seen—a small sphinx no bigger than a cat, with soft golden fur and wise amber eyes.
"You've found my secret pool," the sphinx purred, twitching her tiny wings. "I am Cleo, and these waters show you your heart's truest wishes."
Lila knelt beside the pool. In its depths, she saw images—herself running faster than ever, helping animals, making friends with everyone she met. "But I'm shy," she whispered. "I don't know how to make friends."
Cleo smiled. "The water shows possibilities, not promises. Every friendship begins with courage—the courage to say hello, to share, to be kind. Like you were kind by finding me and not running away."
The sphinx dipped her paw into the pool, creating ripples that turned into butterflies. "True magic isn't about wishes granted easily. It's about the running toward what matters, even when it's scary."
Lila understood. The next day at school, she saw a new girl sitting alone. Lila's heart beat fast—like she was running a race—but she walked over and said, "Hi, I'm Lila. Do you want to play?"
The girl's face lit up like the magical pool. "I'm Maya! Yes!"
That afternoon, Lila ran back to the woods to thank Cleo. But the ivy curtain was just ordinary ivy, and the pool was gone. In its place lay a single golden feather.
Lila smiled, tucking the feather into her pocket. She realized the real magic hadn't been the sphinx or the wishing pool. It had been inside her all along—the courage to run toward kindness and make her own wishes come true.
And sometimes, the best adventures are the ones you share with new friends.
