The Sphinx's Secret Pool

Lila stomped through her backyard on the hottest day of summer, her flip-flops smacking against the dry grass. She was bored. So incredibly bored.

Then she saw it—a shimmering golden shape behind the old oak tree.

Lila crept closer and gasped. A perfect golden **pyramid** stood no taller than her knee, glowing with soft amber light. It wasn't metal or plastic. It felt warm, like sunlight captured in solid form.

"Who dares touch my pyramid?" A voice rumbled, gentle as thunder.

Lila spun around and froze.

Perched on the lowest branch sat the most peculiar creature she'd ever seen. It had the body of a fluffy golden cat, the feathery wings of a tiny owl, and enormous emerald eyes that twinkled like stars.

"I'm a **sphinx**," the creature puffed out its feathery chest. "Guardian of magic. Keeper of secrets. Friend to the curious."

Lila's eyes widened. "You're REAL?"

"As real as your imagination," the sphinx purred, stretching its wings. "I've been waiting for someone truly curious. Are you brave enough to see what's inside?"

The sphinx batted at the pyramid's tip, and the golden surface rippled like water.

Inside was not treasure or jewels. Inside was something impossible—a tiny **pool** of crystalline water, no bigger than a soup bowl, yet so deep it seemed to hold entire oceans within it. Tiny fish made of rainbow light swam through its depths.

"This is the Pool of Wonders," the sphinx whispered. "One sip, and you'll see magic everywhere forever. But you must answer my riddle first."

Lila nodded, heart racing.

"What has no weight but can lift the heaviest heart? What costs nothing but is worth more than gold? What lives in books and dreams and sunny afternoons?"

Lila thought about her grandmother's stories, her dad's silly jokes, her best friend's laughter. She smiled.

"Wonder?"

The sphinx's emerald eyes glowed brighter. "Correct."

Lila touched her finger to the magical water and tasted one tiny drop.

That afternoon, she saw dragons in the clouds, heard songs in the wind, and discovered that the most extraordinary magic was already all around her, just waiting to be noticed by curious eyes.

The sphinx and pyramid vanished, but Lila never felt bored again. Some wonders, she learned, stay with you forever.
