The Sphinx's Secret Pool

Lily loved visiting her grandmother's old house. In the dusty attic, she found a beautiful painting of a sphinx—a mysterious creature with the body of a lion and the head of a wise human.

"That sphinx guards a secret," Grandmother whispered, her eyes twinkling. "Only those with pure hearts can find her magical pool."

That night, Lily couldn't sleep. She grabbed her iPhone—Mom had given it to her for emergencies—and sneaked into the garden. The moonlight painted everything silver and blue.

Suddenly, the garden fountain began to glow. Water swirled and sparkled until it became the most beautiful pool Lily had ever seen. And there, sitting on a stone bench, was the sphinx from the painting!

"Welcome, young one," the sphinx said in a voice like gentle bells. "I've been waiting for someone who still believes in magic."

Lily's phone buzzed with a text message, but she ignored it. Something more important was happening.

"Would you like to go swimming?" the sphinx asked. "In my pool, you can breathe underwater and talk to fish."

Lily nodded eagerly. She jumped into the crystal-clear water, and something amazing happened. Tiny orange fish swam around her, glowing like little stars. They told her jokes and showed her beautiful underwater caves filled with rainbow-colored coral.

"This is wonderful!" Lily laughed, doing somersaults in the magical water.

The sphinx smiled. "Magic lives in unexpected places. But you must always remember—real friends and adventures are more important than screens."

Lily looked at her iPhone floating on the pool's edge. The sphinx was right. She had been so busy playing games and watching videos that she'd forgotten how amazing the real world could be.

"Thank you," Lily said, hugging the sphinx's warm golden paw. "I'll never forget this."

When Lily woke up the next morning, her grandmother was smiling. "Did you find what you were looking for?"

Lily looked at her iPhone, then out the window at the ordinary fountain. "Yes," she said. "And I learned that the best magic isn't on any screen—it's right here, waiting for us to explore it."

From that day on, Lily spent less time on her phone and more time having real adventures with real friends. And sometimes, when the moon was full, she could still see orange fish dancing in her dreams.
