The Sphinx's Secret Orange
Lily skipped through the park, her golden dog Buster trotting happily beside her. The morning sun made everything sparkle, especially the enormous stone statue she'd never noticed before. It was a sphinx—a lion with a human face, ancient and mysterious.
"Hello there," Lily whispered, touching the smooth stone. To her surprise, the sphinx's eyes opened! They glowed warm orange like sunset.
"Hello, young friend," the sphinx spoke in a rumbly, kind voice. "I've been sleeping for one hundred years. You woke me because your heart is pure."
Buster wagged his tail furiously, sensing magic in the air.
"I am the Guardian of Health," the sphinx continued. "Long ago, I hid a special treasure to protect children from getting sick. But now I forget where I put it!"
Lily's mother had taught her about eating healthy food. "Is it something with vitamins?" she asked.
"YES!" the sphinx boomed happily. "The Great Orange of Vitamins! It glows with the power to keep children strong." The sphinx's long stone hair seemed to shimmer as it remembered. "But I can't leave this spot to find it. Will you help?"
Lily nodded eagerly. Buster barked in agreement.
"Follow where the sun touches first," the sphinx advised.
Hand in paw with Buster, Lily followed the morning light across the park. Behind a bush, she found it—a perfect orange glowing with golden light!
"You found it!" the sphinx called joyfully. "Now share it with everyone who needs strength."
But Lily had a better idea. She planted seeds from the magical orange, and soon the park filled with orange trees. Every child who ate one grew strong and healthy.
The sphinx smiled, closing its eyes to sleep again. "Thank you for reminding me," it whispered. "The greatest magic isn't in hiding treasure—it's in sharing it with friends."
That night, Lily dreamed of orange trees growing everywhere, children laughing, and a sphinx watching over them all with a smile.
