The Sphinx's Secret Gift
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's dusty attic. On rainy Saturdays, she'd climb the creaky wooden stairs and discover treasures from faraway places. But nothing prepared her for what she found behind the old oak trunk.
A golden cable stretched across the floor, shimmering like captured sunlight. It pulsed with a gentle glow, as if alive. Lily's heart raced. She knelt and touched it gently. Warmth spread through her fingers, and suddenly the attic walls melted away.
She stood in a desert under a sky painted with stars. Before her rose a magnificent pyramid, its stone blocks gleaming with ancient magic. At its base sat a wise sphinx with emerald eyes and wings like dawn clouds.
"Welcome, small seeker," the sphinx purred. "I've been waiting for someone pure of heart."
Lily's knees trembled, but she stepped forward bravely. "Are you... real?"
"As real as kindness, as real as courage," the sphinx replied. "I guard something precious inside this pyramid—the Vitamin of Dreams. It gives children the power to make their wishes come true."
"That sounds amazing!" Lily gasped. "But why me?"
"Because you're brave enough to climb, kind enough to share, and wise enough to know that magic works best when given freely."
The sphinx lowered her paw. In it sat a tiny crystal vial containing liquid that swirled with rainbow colors.
"Each drop helps one dream grow true," the sphinx explained. "Use it wisely."
Lily thought of her best friend Tom, who was too scared to try out for the soccer team. She thought of her classmate Mia, who wanted to sing but was afraid her voice wasn't good enough.
"Can I share it?" Lily asked.
The sphinx smiled, and her emerald eyes sparkled. "That's why I chose you. Magic shared is magic multiplied."
Lily took the vial carefully. As her fingers closed around it, the golden cable reappeared. She followed it back through the starlight, through the desert, until she found herself back in the dusty attic.
The vial sat in her hand, real and warm.
That week, Lily gave three drops to Tom for courage, three to Mia for confidence, and kept three for herself—for the dream of becoming an explorer.
Tom made the team. Mia sang beautifully at the school talent show. And Lily? She discovered that the real magic wasn't in the vitamin at all.
It was in believing—in yourself, in your friends, and in the courage to help dreams grow.
Sometimes, on rainy attic days, the golden cable still glows. Lily smiles, knowing that the sphinx's greatest gift wasn't magic drops. It was the lesson that kindness and bravery are the most powerful forces in the universe.
