The Sphinx's Secret Gift

Lily loved thunderstorms. Every time lightning flashed across the sky, she would press her nose against the window and count. One... two... three! BOOM! The thunder always made her giggle.

But tonight was different. The lightning flashed purple, and something magical happened. A tiny sphinx, no bigger than Lily's hand, appeared on her windowsill! Its fur was the color of sunset, and its wings shimmered like stardust.

"I've been waiting for someone brave enough to watch the storm with me," the sphinx said in a voice like wind chimes. "Will you come on an adventure?"

Lily nodded, her heart beating fast with excitement. The sphinx tapped its paw, and suddenly they were floating outside, dancing between raindrops that sparkled like diamonds. Above them, the lightning became a staircase of glowing light.

"Where are we going?" Lily asked, holding onto the sphinx's soft fur.

"To the Cloud Pyramid!" the sphinx replied. "It's where storm magic is made, and only kind children can visit."

They climbed the lightning stairs until they reached a pyramid made entirely of clouds, glowing with soft blue light. Inside, crystals of all colors floated around them. Each crystal held a different kind of magic—some made rain, some made snow, others made gentle breezes.

"You can choose one crystal to keep," the sphinx said. "But choose wisely."

Lily looked at all the beautiful crystals. She could have chosen any of them for herself. But then she thought of her grandmother, who couldn't walk in her garden anymore because her legs hurt.

"I want the crystal that can help someone feel better," Lily said softly.

The sphinx smiled, and its eyes glowed warmly. "That is the most powerful magic of all—kindness." It handed Lily a pink crystal that pulsed gently like a heartbeat.

When Lily returned home, she placed the crystal under her grandmother's pillow. The next morning, her grandmother woke up smiling, able to dance in her garden again.

Every storm after that, Lily would look for her tiny sphinx friend. And sometimes, if she watched closely, she'd see a flash of purple lightning and a pair of stardust wings, reminding her that the bravest magic of all is a kind heart.
