The Sphinx's Secret Gift
Luna was playing in her garden when her cat, Ginger, started meowing at something invisible. Luna held up her iphone to take a picture, but the screen showed sparkling where nothing should be.
"I see you too," said a tiny voice. A creature appeared—not quite a cat, not quite a lion, with small wings fluttering like a hummingbird's.
"You're a sphinx!" Luna gasped, dropping to her knees. The creature was no bigger than a mango, with golden fur and eyes like ancient stars.
"I'm Prince Pyramids," the sphinx said sadly. "I've been trapped in your garden for three hundred years. I need something to break the spell, but I don't remember what."
Ginger rubbed against the sphinx, purring like a motorboat. The sphinx's wings fluttered.
Luna's mom called from the kitchen. "Luna! Time for your snack! I cut up an orange for you—it's full of vitamins!"
Luna's eyes widened. "Wait—VITAMINS? That's it!"
She grabbed a slice of orange from the kitchen and ran back. "My mom says oranges have vitamins that make you strong. But what if 'vitamin' is a magic word?"
She held the orange slice to the sphinx. "Vitamin," she whispered.
The sphinx took a tiny bite. Golden light burst from his wings! He grew bigger, strong as a lion, wise as the ancient stories.
"Thank you," the sphinx rumbled, touching Luna's forehead with his paw. "You taught me something. All these years, I thought I needed magic to escape. But I only needed friendship—friendship is the greatest vitamin of all."
He gave Luna a feather that shone like moonlight. "Keep this. Whenever you feel lonely, it will remind you that courage and kindness are the real magic."
Luna tucked the feather into her pocket. Ginger curled around both of them, purring.
That night, Luna's iphone showed a picture of three friends: a girl, a cat, and a sphinx, glowing like sunshine.
And Luna learned that some vitamins don't come in bottles—they come from brave hearts and open hands.
