The Sphinx's Secret Gift
Lily loved exploring the woods behind her house, especially with Barnaby, her golden retriever. One sunny afternoon, Barnaby's nose twitched. He sniffed the air and bounded toward an ancient stone bridge they'd never noticed before.
Under the bridge sat a magnificent creature—a sphinx with emerald eyes and feathers like sunset clouds. The sphinx looked sad.
"Hello, little one," the sphinx rumbled gently. "I am Cleopatra, guardian of the Grove of Good Health. But someone has stolen the Magic Orange Vitamin that keeps all creatures here strong and healthy."
Barnaby wagged his tail bravely. Lily stepped forward. "We'll help you find it!"
Cleopatra smiled. "The vitamin was taken by Grumble, a lonely troll who lives on the hill. He doesn't understand that sharing brings more joy than keeping."
Lily and Barnaby climbed the hill, where they found Grumble clutching a glowing orange gem—the Magic Vitamin. The troll looked surprised.
"I just wanted to be healthy too," Grumble mumbled.
"The vitamin works best when shared with friends," Lily explained kindly. "Come back with us!"
Grumble's eyes widened. He'd never been invited anywhere. Slowly, he handed the orange gem to Lily. Together, they returned to the sphinx.
Cleopatra placed the Magic Orange Vitamin back in its special place. The grove shimmered with golden light. All the creatures—rabbits, birds, deer—gathered around, grateful and healthy.
"Thank you," the sphinx told Lily, Barnaby, and even Grumble. "You taught us something important. True strength comes not just from being healthy, but from having friends who care about you."
That day, Grumble gained new friends, Lily discovered magic in her own backyard, and Barnaby got extra belly rubs from everyone. And every time Lily saw an orange, she remembered that kindness is the greatest vitamin of all.
