The Sphinx's Secret Gift
Max was a small brown dog with floppy ears and a very big imagination. Every morning, he loved running through the park, his tail wagging like a happy flag. But today was different.
Behind the old oak tree, Max discovered something amazing — a tiny sphinx made of golden light, no bigger than a butterfly. The sphinx had sparkling wings and wise purple eyes.
"Hello, brave friend," the sphinx said in a voice like twinkling stars. "I am the Guardian of Courage. I've been waiting for someone special."
Max's tail stopped wagging. "Me? But I'm just a regular dog. I like running and playing, but I'm not special."
The sphinx smiled. "Ah, but true courage isn't about being special. It's about trying even when you're scared." She fluttered her wings, and three glowing vitamins appeared — one red like fire, one blue like the ocean, one green like new leaves.
"These are the Vitamins of Bravery," the sphinx explained. "The red vitamin gives you strength to try new things. The blue vitamin helps you face your fears. The green vitamin reminds you that mistakes are how we learn."
Max's ears perked up. "But I don't feel brave. I'm scared of thunderstorms and dark alleys and meeting new dogs."
"That's exactly why you're perfect," said the sphinx. "Bravery isn't not being scared. Bravery is being scared but doing the right thing anyway." She nudged the glowing vitamins toward him. "Take them. They'll remind you that courage lives inside your heart."
Max sniffed the magical vitamins. They smelled like sunshine and rainbows mixed together. He swallowed all three, and suddenly he felt warm and tingly, like someone had wrapped him in a happy blanket.
"Remember," the sphinx whispered as she began to fade, "the magic isn't in the vitamins. It's in you. You were brave before we met. You just needed to believe it."
That afternoon, when a thunderstorm rolled in, Max didn't hide under the bed. Instead, he ran to his little sister's room and let her cuddle him. When a big dog barked at him in the park, Max stood tall and said, "I'm Max. Let's be friends!" And when he tripped and dropped his favorite ball into a puddle, Max just laughed and fished it out.
The tiny sphinx had disappeared, but Max knew she was still with him — in every brave thing he did, even when he was scared. And that was the greatest magic of all.
