The Sphinx's Secret Gift
Lily loved her magical hat more than anything in the world. It was a purple velvet hat with silver stars that her grandmother had given her, and it made her feel brave whenever she wore it.
One sunny afternoon, Lily sat beneath the tall palm tree in her backyard, dangling her feet in her small plastic pool. A tiny goldfish named Bubbles swam happily around her toes. Bubbles wasn't just any goldfish — Lily had discovered last week that Bubbles could talk!
"Lily!" Bubbles said, his voice sounding like tiny bells. "I need your help! The Great Sphinx is sad, and only you can cheer her up!"
"The Sphinx?" Lily asked, adjusting her magical hat. "You mean the magical creature who lives in the clouds above the palm tree?"
Bubbles nodded. "She guards the Dream Vitamin, but she's lost her smile. Without her smile, the Dream Vitamin won't work, and children everywhere will stop having happy dreams!"
Lily knew what she had to do. She closed her eyes and wished as hard as she could. Suddenly, she and Bubbles began to float upward, higher and higher until they reached a beautiful kingdom made of pink clouds.
There sat the Great Sphinx — not a scary stone monster, but a gentle creature with the body of a lion and the face of a kind old woman. Tears like tiny diamonds rolled down her furry cheeks.
"What's wrong?" Lily asked, reaching out to pat the Sphinx's paw.
"I'm lonely," the Sphinx sniffled. "I haven't had a friend in hundreds of years. Everyone is too afraid to visit me."
Lily smiled and placed her purple hat on the Sphinx's head. "You're not alone anymore. I'll be your friend, and so will Bubbles!"
The Sphinx's eyes lit up. She laughed, and the Dream Vitamin bottle beside her began to glow rainbow colors. The magical vitamin floated down to Earth, spreading sweet dreams to children all over the world.
"Thank you, Lily," the Sphinx said. "You taught me that friendship is the most powerful magic of all."
As Lily floated back to her palm tree, she realized something important: sometimes the bravest thing you can do is be someone's friend. And from that day on, she visited her sphinx friend every week, wearing her magical hat and bringing Bubbles along for the most wonderful adventures.
