The Sphinx's Secret Garden
Lily loved helping her grandmother in the garden, especially when they planted spinach. But today, something magical happened. Her golden retriever, Max, started barking at an old stone statue behind the raspberry bushes.
"Max, what is it?" Lily whispered. The statue began to move! It wasn't just a statue—it was a real sphinx, with the body of a lion and the head of a wise woman. The sphinx's long, flowing hair sparkled like starlight.
"Hello, young gardener," the sphinx spoke gently. "I've been sleeping for three hundred years. Your voice woke me."
Lily couldn't believe it. A real, live sphinx in her grandmother's garden! Max wagged his tail happily.
"I'm sorry I disturbed you," Lily said politely.
"No, no. It's time," said the sphinx. "My name is Cleopatra. I guard something precious. Would you like to see it?"
Lily nodded eagerly. She and Max followed Cleopatra behind the oldest oak tree, where a secret door appeared in the trunk. Inside was the most beautiful garden Lily had ever seen. Flowers glowed in every color of the rainbow. Butterflies the size of dinner plates fluttered by.
But in the center of this magical garden sat a tiny bull, no bigger than a kitten. It looked sad.
"This is Bruno," Cleopatra explained. "He's a star bull who fell from the sky. He's too small to climb back home."
Lily knelt down. "Maybe he needs to grow strong first. Like how spinach makes us strong?"
Cleopatra's eyes lit up. "Of course! Magical spinach from my garden will help him fly home!"
Together, they fed Bruno the glowing spinach leaves. With each bite, Bruno grew a little bigger and his horns sparkled brighter. Finally, Bruno was big enough. He soared into the sky like a shooting star, leaving a trail of silver light.
"Thank you, Lily," Cleopatra said, pressing something into Lily's hand. It was a tiny silver sphinx charm. "Keep this, and you'll always find your way back to magic."
That night, Lily looked up at the stars. A new constellation shone brightly—the shape of a bull. She patted Max's head and smiled. Some adventures, she learned, start with something as simple as a garden and a dog who knows magic when he sees it.
