The Sphinx's Secret Garden

Young Sphinx was the guardian of the magical garden, but she had a secret problem. Ancient sphinxes were famous for their clever riddles, but she couldn't remember any! Every time travelers came through, she froze up and forgot everything.

One sunny morning, a gentle bear named Barnaby lumbered into the garden carrying a basket of bright oranges. "These are from the Orange Valley," he said with a smile. "The sweetest in all the land. Would you like one?"

Sphinx's stomach grumbled. She'd been so worried about her riddles that she'd forgotten to eat! The orange was delicious—sweet and tangy, with juice that ran down her chin.

Suddenly, a clever fox darted between the flowers. "I'm Fenwick!" he said, his fluffy tail twitching. "I couldn't help but notice you look worried."

Sphinx explained her problem. Fenwick's ears perked up. "I know lots of riddles! Maybe we can practice together?"

Then Bram the bull pushed through the garden gate. He was enormous, but his eyes were kind. "I heard talking," he said gently. "I love riddles! Can I play too?"

Barnaby shared his oranges while Fenwick taught Sphinx riddle after riddle. Bram turned out to be wonderful at guessing them, and when they all laughed together, Sphinx forgot to be nervous.

By sunset, Sphinx had learned something important: she wasn't a failure because she couldn't remember riddles alone. The best magic wasn't being perfect—it was having friends who helped you shine.

"Ready for tomorrow's travelers?" Fenwick asked.

Sphinx grinned. "With my friends by my side, I'm ready for anything!"

And from that day on, travelers who visited the garden found not just a clever sphinx, but a circle of friends waiting to welcome them with oranges, laughter, and the best riddles in all the land.
