The Sphinx's Secret Garden
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's attic. One rainy afternoon, she found something peculiar: a glowing orange marble hidden inside an old jewelry box.
"What do you suppose this does?" she wondered, rolling it in her palm.
Suddenly, the marble grew warmer and warmer, brighter and brighter, until POOF! Lily found herself standing in a beautiful desert garden filled with palm trees and sparkling streams.
"Welcome, young traveler," a gentle voice rumbled.
Lily looked up—and up—and up! Before her stood a magnificent creature with the body of a lion, the wings of an eagle, and a wise human face. It was a sphinx!
But this sphinx wasn't scary at all. She had kind eyes and a friendly smile.
"I've been waiting for someone like you," the sphinx said. "My name is Amara, and this is my dearest friend." She nodded toward a massive but incredibly gentle bull who was dozing nearby.
"That's Buster," Amara explained. "He may look fierce, but he wouldn't hurt a fly. He loves having his ears scratched."
Lily approached cautiously. Buster opened one eye, sniffed her hand, and let out a happy snort. Lily giggled and scratched behind his ears. His fur was soft as cotton!
"Why did you bring me here?" Lily asked.
Amara's face grew serious. "For a thousand years, I've guarded the secret of the Friendship Orange. It appears only to those with pure hearts. You found it, which means you're special. But there's one thing I must know."
"What's that?"
"Will you be my friend? I'm so lonely here with only Buster for company. Not that I don't adore Buster, but..."
"Of course!" Lily cried. "I'd love to be your friend!"
Amara beamed. "Then hold out your hand."
A tiny orange kitten materialized in Lily's palms—her cat back home!
"Whiskers can visit too," Amara said. "Now you'll always have a way back."
And so, every rainy afternoon, Lily holds her orange marble and visits her sphinx friend, Buster the gentle bull, and Whiskers the magical cat. Because the best adventures are the ones you share with friends.
