The Sphinx's Secret Garden
Lily loved exploring behind her grandmother's old house. One sunny afternoon, she pushed through a tangle of bushes and discovered something amazing—a stone archway she had never seen before. Inside sat a magnificent sphinx with emerald eyes and wings like golden feathers.
"Hello, little one," the sphinx spoke in a voice like gentle wind chimes. "I am Cleo, guardian of the Secret Garden. But I'm afraid I've fallen asleep on duty—again!"
Lily giggled. "What do you guard?"
Cleo sighed. "The most important plants in the world. But I was so sleepy, I forgot to tend them. Look!"
In the garden, tiny green plants drooped sadly. Cleo explained these were magic spinach plants. Each leaf contained a special vitamin—not for bodies, but for hearts. One leaf gave courage, another kindness, another joy.
"But without water and care, they'll fade away!" Cleo worried.
Lily's eyes sparkled. "I can help!" She filled her watering can at the crystal spring and carefully watered each plant. As she did, she whispered encouraging words. "You're brave," she told one. "You're kind," she said to another.
The spinach perked up immediately, leaves glowing soft pink, blue, and gold.
"You did it!" Cleo exclaimed. "You saved them!"
Lily felt warm inside. "I think working together is the best vitamin of all."
Cleo nodded wisely. "And that, dear Lily, is the greatest secret of my garden. Friendship is the strongest magic of all."
From that day on, Lily visited Cleo often. They tended the garden together, and sometimes, when children needed courage or kindness, they'd share a special leaf. And every time, Lily remembered: the real magic wasn't in the vitamins—it was in helping others and friendship shared between friends.
The sphinx never fell asleep on duty again, especially with such a wonderful friend by her side.
