The Sphinx's Secret Garden

Lily loved exploring her grandmother's backyard. It wasn't an ordinary yard — it had a magical grove of palm trees that whispered secrets when the wind blew.

One sunny afternoon, Lily spotted something strange behind the largest palm tree. It was a stone sphinx, no bigger than a teddy bear, with emerald eyes that seemed to sparkle.

"Hello there," Lily whispered, kneeling down. To her surprise, the sphinx blinked!

"I've been waiting for you," the sphinx said in a voice like rustling leaves. "I'm Cleo, and I need a friend."

Lily's eyes grew wide. "A talking sphinx! But Grandmother said magical creatures aren't real."

Cleo chuckled. "That's because grown-ups forget how to look with their hearts. Will you help me?"

"Help you with what?"

"Someone is trying to steal the magic from this garden," Cleo explained. "I need you to be my spy. Look for anything unusual."

Lily felt important. She tiptoed around the palm grove, peeking behind bushes and under leaves. Suddenly, she heard snorting. A tiny bull with golden horns trotted out from behind a flower bush!

"Don't be afraid," the bull said gently. "I'm Ferdinand. I'm not stealing magic — I'm protecting it!"

Cleo hopped over. "Ferdinand! You're back!"

"Back?" Lily asked.

"We're the garden's guardians," Cleo explained. "But we forgot the most important magic of all."

"What's that?"

"Friendship," Ferdinand said. "We were so busy guarding the garden that we stopped being friends."

Lily smiled. "That's an easy fix!"

That afternoon, the three new friends played hide-and-seek among the palm trees, shared stories, and laughed until sunset. Lily learned that magic wasn't just about talking sphinxes or golden bulls — it was about kindness, friendship, and never forgetting to look with your heart.

And every day after school, Lily returned to her secret garden, where her magical friends were always waiting.
