The Sphinx's Secret Garden
Lily discovered the magic door on a Tuesday, tucked behind her grandmother's old bookshelf. When she stepped through, everything turned sparkly and purple.
In the center of a floating garden sat the most magnificent creature she had ever seen—a sphinx with golden fur and wings like rainbows. But the sphinx looked very sad.
"Hello," Lily whispered. "I'm Lily."
The sphinx's enormous eyes sparkled. "I am Cleo. I've been waiting for a friend for three hundred years."
"Why so long?"
Cleo sighed, and flowers around her wilted slightly. "Everyone who visits wants my treasure. But I just want someone to share my garden with."
Lily looked around. The garden was filled with the most extraordinary plants—singing sunflowers, dancing daisies, and bushes that grew shimmering beans.
"What's that green stuff?" Lily pointed to a leafy patch.
"Magic spinach," Cleo said proudly. "One leaf gives you the Vitamin of Wonder. It helps you see the magic in every day."
Lily's eyes widened. "Really?"
Celo nodded. "But I can never share it. Visitors always try to steal my whole garden instead of just being my friend."
Lily sat down beside the lonely sphinx. "I don't want your spinach, Cleo. I want to know you. What's your favorite color? Do you like jokes? Can you teach me to fly?"
For the first time in centuries, Cleo smiled. Her wings spread wide, casting golden light across the garden.
"I love yellow," Cleo said. "And yes, I love jokes! Why did the mushroom go to the party? Because he was a fun-gi!"
Lily giggled. "That's terrible!"
They spent the afternoon talking, laughing, and exploring the magical garden together. As the sun began to set, Cleo gently plucked one perfect spinach leaf.
"You are different, Lily. You're a true friend." Cleo placed the leaf in Lily's hand. "The Vitamin of Wonder works best when shared."
Lily took a small bite. Suddenly, she could see tiny fairies dancing in the grass, hear the flowers singing lullabies, and feel the warmth of Cleo's friendship glowing in her heart.
"Will you come back tomorrow?" Cleo asked hopefully.
"Every day," Lily promised. "That's what friends do."
And so, the lonely sphinx found the greatest treasure of all—not gold or jewels, but a friend who saw the magic in her heart.
