The Sphinx's Secret Garden

Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house, especially the garden behind the old wooden shed. But today was different. Her grandmother handed her a shiny iPhone and said, "Take pictures of anything magical you find!"

Lily skipped into the garden, the iPhone warm in her hand. Suddenly, she smelled something sweet—like sunshine and honey. Following the scent, she pushed aside some leaves and gasped.

There, nestled among giant ferns, grew the most beautiful papaya she'd ever seen. It glowed with a soft golden light!

"Who goes there?" a riddle-voice rumbled.

Lily looked up. A magnificent sphinx sat nearby, its lion body gleaming like polished copper, eagle wings folded neatly.

"I'm Lily," she whispered.

"Then solve my riddle," said the sphinx. "I have cities but no houses, mountains but no trees, water but no fish. What am I?"

Lily thought hard. She remembered the iPhone in her hand—her grandmother had shown her maps!

"A map!" Lily cried.

"Correct!" The sphinx smiled. "You may take one papaya. But know this—they only grow for those with kindness in their hearts."

Lily gently picked the glowing papaya. But just then, she heard running footsteps. It was her friend Max, looking worried.

"Lily! My puppy ran away!"

Lily looked at the magical papaya, then at Max's sad face. She remembered what the sphinx said about kindness.

"Let's find him together!" she said.

The sphinx nodded approvingly. As they ran toward Max's house, the papaya glowed brighter, lighting their path. Soon, they found the puppy stuck in a bush, hungry and scared.

Lily broke the papaya in half and gave some to the puppy. It ate happily, its tail wagging.

That night, Lily showed her grandmother the iPhone photos. But her favorite picture wasn't of the magical papaya or the sphinx. It was the photo Max took—Lily, the puppy, and a very happy sphinx, all smiling under the stars.

Some magic, Lily learned, isn't meant to be kept. It's meant to be shared.
