The Sphinx's Secret Game
Lily loved playing padel with her friends at the old park. One sunny afternoon, her bright yellow ball sailed over the fence and rolled toward a mysterious cave she'd never noticed before.
Curious and brave, Lily went running after it. The cave was dark and cool, with sparkly stones embedded in the walls like tiny stars. Deep inside, she found something amazing—a stone sphinx with emerald eyes that glowed softly!
"Welcome, young one," the sphinx spoke in a voice like gentle wind chimes. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find my hidden playground."
Lily's eyes went wide. "You can talk?"
"Indeed," the sphinx purred. "But first, you must answer my riddle: What has four legs in the morning, two legs at noon, and three legs in the evening?"
Lily thought hard. She had learned this in school! "A human! Babies crawl on all fours, grown-ups walk on two legs, and old people use walking sticks!"
"Correct!" The sphinx smiled, and part of the cave wall slid open to reveal a secret garden. There, playing with the yellow padel ball, was a magnificent bull with golden horns and the gentlest brown eyes Lily had ever seen.
"This is Ferdinand," the sphinx said. "He may look fierce, but he loves playing games. Ferdinand found your ball and was waiting for its owner."
Lily wasn't scared. She could see how Ferdinand's eyes crinkled happily when he spotted her. "Would you like to play padel with us?" she asked.
The bull nodded enthusiastically! For hours, they played the most magical game of padel ever. Ferdinand used his nose to hit the ball, the sphinx kept score with her tail, and Lily laughed until her stomach hurt.
"Friends come in all shapes and sizes," the sphinx said wisely as the sun began to set. "Never judge someone by how they look."
Lily hugged Ferdinand goodbye and promised to visit again. As she walked home, padel racket in hand, she knew she had found something more precious than any treasure—true friendship in the most unexpected place.
The sphinx's garden remained their secret, where every week Lily, the wise sphinx, and the gentle bull would play padel together, proving that the best adventures find you when you're brave enough to chase a lost ball.
