The Sphinx's Secret Game

Lily loved exploring the woods behind her house. One sunny afternoon, she discovered something amazing—a stone sphinx with sparkling emerald eyes!

"Hello, little one," the sphinx rumbled, her voice like gentle thunder. "I've been waiting centuries for someone brave enough to find me."

Lily's eyes widened. "You're real?"

"Indeed," the sphinx purred. "But I'm lonely. All my friends have been sleeping for a very long time."

The sphinx touched her paw to a nearby oak tree. Suddenly, a clever red fox popped out!

"Finnigan Fox, at your service!" he declared with a flourish.

Next, the sphinx awakened a giant stone bull behind some bushes. But this wasn't a scary bull—he had a friendly smile and held an old baseball bat.

"I'm Barnaby Bull," he said shyly. "Do you like baseball? I invented it thousands of years ago, but everyone forgot."

Lily clapped her hands. "I love baseball! Let's play!"

They played until sunset. Finnigan was fast, Barnaby hit the ball into the clouds, and the sphinx kept score with her magic. When they finished, the sphinx led them to a hidden pond.

"Time for swimming!" she announced.

They splashed and played until the stars came out.

"Why were you all sleeping?" Lily asked.

The sphinx smiled. "People stopped believing in magic. Without friendship and imagination, we fade away. But you—you still believe in wonder."

Lily hugged her new friends. "I'll visit every day. No one should ever be lonely just because they're different."

And she did. Because the best magic isn't in spells or potions—it's in friendship, kindness, and keeping your heart open to wonder.
