The Sphinx's Secret Game

Leo loved summer afternoons by the old pond. The **water** shimmered like diamonds under the golden sun. He was the best at **swimming** in his neighborhood, able to hold his breath longer than anyone.

One day, while practicing his dives, Leo noticed something strange behind the willow tree. A magnificent creature sat quietly on a mossy rock. It had the body of a lion and the head of a wise person.

"A **sphinx**!" Leo whispered, remembering from his storybook.

The sphinx opened one amber eye. "Hello, little one. I've been **spy**-ing on you for days. You swim like a fish."

Leo laughed. "You can talk!"

"I've been alone for three hundred years," the sphinx said sadly. "Nobody visits my pond anymore. They're all too busy with their games."

Leo's face lit up. "I know! We can play **baseball** together!"

The sphinx looked puzzled. "Base-ball? What's this magical game?"

Leo ran home and grabbed his bat and ball. He explained the rules, but the sphinx had a better idea. "Let's play MY way!"

They played the most magical game ever. The sphinx used her tail as a bat, hitting balls that turned into butterflies before landing. When Leo ran bases, he found himself **swimming** through air instead of running on ground. The **water** in the pond cheered with splashing sounds every time someone scored.

"I'm going to **spy** on you from now on," the sphinx winked. "You're the best friend I've ever had."

Leo learned something wonderful that day: the best games aren't the ones with the most rules, but the ones played with friends who use their imagination.

Every summer afternoon, Leo returned to the pond. Where others saw just old **water** and a willow tree, he found magic, friendship, and the world's most extraordinary baseball games.

And if you visit that pond on quiet afternoons, you might still see them playing — a boy and his sphinx friend, turning ordinary games into adventures beyond dreams.
