The Sphinx's Secret Game

Lily and Max were playing padel in the park when the ball sailed over the fence into the mysterious garden next door. No one had ever seen who lived there.

"I'll get it," Lily said, climbing through the bushes.

What she found made her gasp. In the center of an overgrown yard stood a miniature pyramid, glowing with golden light. And perched on top was a real sphinx!

The sphinx had the body of a lion and the face of a wise woman. Her eyes sparkled like stars.

"Welcome," she said in a voice like gentle bells. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find my pyramid."

Max tumbled through the bushes beside her. "Whoa!"

"I am Cleo," the sphinx said. "But I am lonely. My friend Benny has been under a sleep spell for one hundred years."

A figure shuffled out from behind the pyramid. It was a zombie! But instead of being scary, Benny looked sad and confused. His skin was pale blue, and he moved slowly, like he was wading through honey.

"Can you help us?" Cleo asked. "The only way to wake Benny is with the golden horn of the Star Bull. But the bull lives at the top of the Moon Mountain, and he only appears to those who prove themselves worthy."

"We'll help!" Lily said without thinking.

"But how?" Max whispered. "We're just kids."

Cleo smiled. "The padel ball brought you here. Perhaps the game holds the key."

Lily's eyes widened. "The bull loves games! My grandpa told me stories about the Star Bull. He challenges travelers to contests. If we beat him at padel, he'll grant us a wish!"

The sphinx clapped her paws together. "Then let us go on an adventure!"

With Benny shuffling along behind them, they climbed Moon Mountain. At the peak, they found the magnificent Star Bull, whose horns glowed like captured moonbeams.

"I accept your challenge," the bull said in a deep rumble.

The padel match was magical. The bull served with the strength of a thunderstorm, but Lily and Max moved like dancers. When they played together, nothing could stop them. They won!

"You played with joy and friendship," the Star Bull said. "That is the greatest magic of all." He gave them his golden horn.

Back at the pyramid, they blew the horn. Gold sparkles swirled around Benny, and suddenly his blue skin turned pink, and his eyes lit up with happiness.

"Thank you!" Benny cheered. "You saved me!"

Lily and Max learned that courage comes in many forms, and true friendship can break any spell. And every Saturday, they returned to the garden for magical padel matches with their new friends.
