The Sphinx's Secret Game
Lily's orange tabby cat, Marmalade, had a secret. Every night when the moon rose, he would slip out the window and vanish. One warm evening, Lily decided to follow him.
She tiptoed through the garden until she reached the old fountain at the bottom. The water sparkled like liquid diamonds in the moonlight. There, sitting beside the fountain, was an enormous stone sphinx with the head of a lion and the body of a winged creature.
Marmalade sat politely before the sphinx, meowing as if they were having a conversation.
"Ah, you've brought a friend," the sphinx rumbled. Its voice sounded like stones gently rubbing together. To Lily's amazement, the sphinx held a small padel racket in its paw.
"We play every night," Marmalade explained, and Lily gasped—her cat could talk!
"The game is called Moon Padel," said the sphinx. "Would you like to join?"
Lily's eyes widened as the sphinx magically produced another racket. The ball they hit wasn't ordinary—it was made of glowing water droplets that splashed and sparkled with every hit. Each time the ball touched the ground, small flowers sprang up: daisies, roses, sunflowers.
They played until dawn approached, laughing as the water-ball splashed joyfully. The sphinx taught Lily something wonderful: "Magic lives wherever friendship and playfulness meet."
As the first light of morning appeared, the sphinx returned to stone, and Marmalade curled up in Lily's arms.
"Will you come back tomorrow?" Marmalade purred.
Lily smiled, hugging her magical cat tight. "Every night."
From that night on, Lily learned that the most wonderful adventures are the ones you share with friends—even if one of them happens to be a thousands-of-years-old sphinx who loves padel.
