The Sphinx's Secret Game
Lily discovered something magical behind the old oak tree in her backyard. A golden sphinx the size of a kitten sat there, its stone wings shimmering with tiny rainbows.
"I am Cleo," the sphinx said in a voice like chimes. "And I love games more than riddles. Will you play with me?"
Lily's eyes widened. "But you're made of stone! How can you play?"
Cleo laughed, and suddenly she wasn't stone anymore — she was a magnificent creature with emerald scales and wings that sparkled like diamonds. "Magic, silly! Now, let's play!"
Celo waved her paw, and Lily's iPhone floated into the air, transforming into a glowing golden scoreboard. "First challenge: baseball!" Cleo summoned a tiny bat and ball that zoomed around like fireflies. Lily swung and missed, laughed, tried again. The ball burst into butterflies when she finally hit it!
"Now for swimming!" Cleo declared, and the grass beneath them became a sparkling pool. But instead of water, it was filled with stars that Lily could float upon. She swam through constellations, dipping her fingers in nebula that tasted like strawberry dreams.
"Last game — padel!" Cleo created a magical court where the racquet was made of moonlight. Every time Lily hit the ball, it turned into a different wonder: a snowflake, a flower, a tiny dragon that blew bubbles instead of fire.
"You won!" Cleo cheered, pressing a warm stone into Lily's hand. "This is my Friendship Token. Whenever you feel lonely, hold it, and I'll play with you in your dreams."
That night, Lily fell asleep with the stone in her hand. In her dreams, she and Cleo played games across the universe — baseball on Mars, swimming in Saturn's rings, and padel on the moon.
Lily learned that magic exists everywhere, especially in friendship and the joy of play. And sometimes, the most wonderful discoveries are waiting right behind an old oak tree.
