The Sphinx's Secret Game

Lily loved exploring her grandmother's dusty attic. One rainy Saturday, she discovered something peculiar half-hidden beneath a pile of old quilts — a golden **cable** that seemed to shimmer with its own light. Unlike any cable she'd ever seen, this one hummed with a gentle warmth, and when she touched it, tiny sparkles danced across her fingertips.

Curious, Lily followed the glowing cable as it snaked across the attic floor and disappeared through a tiny door she'd never noticed before. The door was barely bigger than a shoebox, but when Lily knelt down, she realized it was the perfect size for someone very small... or someone very curious.

She squeezed through and found herself in a magical garden where trees grew **orange** lanterns instead of fruit. The oranges glowed softly, lighting up pathways that wound toward an enormous stone statue. It was a **sphinx** — but unlike the pictures in her books, this sphinx had kind eyes and a friendly smile.

"Welcome, Lily!" the sphinx rumbled gently. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to follow the golden cable. My name is Cleo, and I need your help."

Lily's eyes widened. "You can talk?"

"Indeed!" Cleo's tail swished happily. "You see, I guard the Garden of Wonders, but I'm terribly lonely. The ancient scrolls say I need a friend who can solve my favorite riddle. And then —" Cleo's eyes twinkled — "we can play my favorite game: **padel**!"

"Padel?" Lily giggled. "But you're made of stone!"

"Magic stone!" Cleo winked. "In this garden, anything is possible."

The sphinx's riddle was tricky but fair: *What has an eye but cannot see?* Lily thought hard, remembering something she'd learned in science class. "A needle!" she exclaimed.

"Correct!" Cleo cheered. "Now, let's play!"

They played padel under the glowing orange trees, laughing as Cleo taught Lily magical moves — hitting the ball so it created rainbows when it bounced. But too soon, Lily heard her mother calling from the real world.

"Will I ever see you again?" Lily asked sadly.

Celo pressed something into her hand — a small, shiny device that looked like an **iPhone** but covered in ancient symbols. "Touch this, and think of me. The magical garden is always here, for those with curious hearts."

Lily stepped back through the tiny door, the golden cable still humming in her pocket. She knew some adventures were just beginning, and the best friends could be found in the most unexpected places.

That night, as she drifted asleep, Lily touched the magical device and whispered, "Goodnight, Cleo." Somewhere beyond the stars, a sphinx smiled back.
