The Sphinx's Secret Game

Lily's cat Mittens always purred loudest when the moon turned orange. Tonight was one of those nights. The full moon glowed like a giant tangerine in the sky, casting golden light across Lily's bedroom floor.

Mittens jumped onto the windowsill and meowed — not her usual meow, but a strange, musical sound. She tapped her paw against the glass. Lily opened the window, and to her surprise, Mittens leaped out onto something invisible.

"Wait!" Lily whispered, following her cat into the magical night.

They landed in a garden where orange flowers glowed like tiny lanterns. In the center sat an enormous sphinx made of starlight and stone. Her eyes sparkled like ancient wisdom.

"Welcome," the sphinx spoke, her voice like wind through chimes. "I've been waiting for someone who loves adventure."

In her paw, the sphinx held a small golden paddle — a magical padel from a game played in the sky kingdom.

"I have lost my moon-ball," the sphinx explained sadly. "Without it, I cannot teach the stars to twinkle properly. Will you help me find it?"

Lily nodded bravely. Mittens meowed in agreement.

The sphinx handed Lily the magical padel. "This will guide you. Follow where it points."

The padel tugged Lily toward a mysterious cave. Inside, walls glittered with orange crystals. Mittens scampered ahead, her fur glowing in the magical light. Suddenly, she stopped and pounced!

"Good cat!" Lily cried. Using the padel, she carefully knocked the ball free. It bounced once, twice, and soared into the air, trailing rainbow sparkles.

Back in the garden, the sphinx's face lit up. "You found it!" She caught the moon-ball and tossed it toward the sky. It became part of the moon, making it shine brighter than ever.

"Thank you," the sphinx said. "For your courage and kindness, take this." She touched Lily's forehead, and suddenly Lily could understand Mittens' thoughts!

"You're the best friend ever," Mittens said inside Lily's mind.

Lily woke up in her bed, Mittens curled beside her. But now, when the moon glowed orange, Lily understood exactly what her cat was saying: "Let's go on another adventure!"
