The Sphinx's Secret Game

Lily loved playing **baseball** in her backyard, especially with her fluffy black **cat** Mittens watching from the fence. One sunny afternoon, Lily hit the ball so high it disappeared into a cloud. When it came down, it glowed golden.

"Come back!" Lily called, chasing the magical ball. Mittens followed, leaping gracefully through the tall grass. The ball rolled through a hedge and into a place Lily had never seen before—a desert with sparkling purple sand.

There, a magnificent **sphinx** with emerald eyes sat atop a golden pyramid. "I've been waiting for you," the sphinx rumbled kindly. "But first, you must solve my riddle to enter the secret garden of surprises."

Lily nodded bravely. Mittens purred encouragement.

"I am round and bright, I hang from trees like a little sun. What am I?" the sphinx asked.

Lily thought hard. Then her eyes lit up. "An **orange**!"

"Correct!" The sphinx smiled, and the pyramid opened to reveal a beautiful garden. But something was wrong—a giant bull blocked the gate, looking sad and lonely.

"That's Buster," the sphinx whispered. "He thinks everyone's afraid of him because he's big. He just wants to play."

Lily stepped forward. "Hi Buster! Want to play catch?" She held up her magical **baseball**.

Buster's eyes widened. "Really? Nobody ever asks me to play."

"Being big doesn't mean you're scary," Lily said. "It means you're perfect for hitting home runs!"

Buster's face lit up. He gently tossed the ball with his nose, and Lily hit it all the way to the stars. Mittens chased it, dancing in the moonlight.

The sphinx nodded wisely. "You've learned the greatest magic of all—kindness sees past appearances to the heart within."

When Lily and Mittens returned home, the magical ball looked ordinary again. But sometimes, on warm evenings, she could still hear Buster's happy mooing in the distance, reminding her that the best friends often come in the most unexpected packages.

And Mittens? He still sat on the fence, but now he wore a tiny golden necklace the sphinx had given him—a reminder of their amazing adventure together.
