The Sphinx's Secret Game

Leo loved his baseball more than anything. It was signed by his favorite player, and he kept it safe on his nightstand. But one night, something magical happened. When the moonlight touched the baseball, it began to glow like a tiny star.

Leo followed the glowing ball out his window, past the tall palm trees swaying in the warm breeze, and into a hidden garden he had never noticed before. In the center stood a magnificent sphinx made of golden light, her wings shimmering like rainbows.

"I've been waiting for you, Leo," the sphinx said, her voice sounding like wind chimes. "Your baseball is special. It was made from a fallen star, and it has the power to create friendships wherever it goes."

The sphinx pointed to a shadowy figure sitting alone on a bench. It looked like a zombie, with greenish skin and messy clothes, but when Leo got closer, he saw something surprising – the zombie was crying.

"That's Zara," the sphinx explained. "Everyone runs away because she looks different. But she's the kindest person I know. She just needs a friend."

Leo remembered how he felt when no one wanted to play with him last year. His heart went out to Zara. He walked over and held out his glowing baseball.

"Want to play catch?" Leo asked.

Zara's eyes widened. No one had ever asked her to play before. As they tossed the magical baseball back and forth, something wonderful happened. With each catch, Zara's skin became a little rosier. With each throw, her smile grew brighter.

"Thank you," Zara said, her voice gentle. "You're my first friend."

The sphinx nodded wisely. "Leo, you discovered the real magic of the baseball – it shows us that true friendship sees with the heart, not the eyes."

From that night on, Leo, Zara, and the sphinx played baseball under the stars every week. And whenever Leo saw someone sitting alone at school, he remembered what he learned: the best way to make a friend is to be brave enough to say hello first.

The magical baseball still glows sometimes, reminding Leo that kindness is the greatest magic of all.
