The Sphinx's Secret Game

Leo loved playing baseball in his backyard, even if it was just him against the imaginary teams he created in his mind. Every afternoon, he'd stand beside the tall palm tree and practice his pitching.

One day, Leo threw his favorite ball — the one with autographs from all his friends who'd moved away — and something magical happened. Instead of landing in the grass, the ball disappeared right into the palm tree's trunk!

"Curious," said a deep but gentle voice.

Leo spun around. Sitting on a branch was the most magnificent creature he'd ever seen — a sphinx, but not like the ones in books. This sphinx had bright golden fur, sparkling blue eyes, and wings that shimmered like rainbows.

"I've watched you play for weeks," the sphinx said, fluttering down. "I am guardian of the Magic Pyramid."

"There's a pyramid in my backyard?" Leo gasped.

"Hidden beneath this palm tree," the sphinx explained. "Your baseball opened its entrance because your heart is full of wonder."

The sphinx touched the trunk, and it shimmered like water, revealing a glowing golden pyramid underneath. Inside, Leo found chambers filled with floating crystals that chimed like bells when he walked past.

At the pyramid's center was a fountain with water that sparkled like stars. "This is water of imagination," the sphinx said. "One sip helps you see magic everywhere."

Leo drank, and suddenly his backyard transformed. The pinecone became a tiny castle, the garden flowers danced to music only he could hear, and ants were building marvelous miniature cities.

"But why show me this?" Leo asked.

"Because," the sphinx smiled, "magic needs sharing. Will you help others find wonder too?"

Leo nodded eagerly. The sphinx gave him a special baseball — one that would always lead magical children to the pyramid.

From that day on, Leo wasn't lonely anymore. He met other kids who could see magic too, and they formed the Wonder League, playing baseball and discovering enchanted places hidden all over the neighborhood.

And whenever Leo missed his old friends, he'd visit the sphinx, who always reminded him: "True friends never really leave — they live in your heart, right alongside the magic."
