The Sphinx's Secret Game

Lily's cat, Whiskers, bolted toward the old pool behind their house. But this wasn't just any pool — it glowed with mysterious blue light under the full moon.

"Whiskers, wait!" Lily called, chasing after her adventurous cat.

Suddenly, a magnificent sphinx rose from the shimmering water. Its lion body glistened like wet gold, while its human face smiled kindly at the frightened girl.

"Welcome, young one," the sphinx purred, its voice like gentle thunder. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to play my special game."

Whiskers rubbed against the sphinx's massive paw, purring loudly. The cat wasn't scared at all!

"What kind of game?" Lily asked, her curiosity overcoming her fear.

The sphinx conjured a magical padel racket that sparkled with starlight. "The Game of Truth. Each hit must answer a question from your heart. If you play honestly, you win something more precious than treasure."

Lily gripped the glowing racket. The sphinx tossed a ball that looked like a miniature lightning bolt — crackling with energy but warm to the touch.

"First question," the sphinx announced. "What makes you truly happy?"

Lily swung the racket, and the lightning ball soared. "Playing with Whiskers and helping my friends!"

The ball bounced back, glowing brighter. "What scares you the most?"

"Being alone," Lily whispered, hitting the ball gently.

The sphinx nodded wisely. "What would you do to help someone in need?"

"I'd share everything I have!" Lily declared, swinging with all her might.

CRACK! A real lightning bolt struck the pool, and for a moment, everything turned brilliant white. When Lily could see again, the sphinx was gone.

In her pocket appeared a small golden medal. It read: "True Champion — Braver Than Lightning, Kinder Than Kings."

Whiskers meowed proudly as Lily realized the real prize wasn't magic at all — it was being brave enough to speak from her heart.

That night, Lily dreamed of sphinxes and lightning games, knowing the greatest magic of all was simply being herself.
