The Sphinx's Secret Friends
Mittens was a small orange cat who loved to explore. One night, during a fierce lightning storm, she spotted something strange glowing in the distance. Despite her fear, she crept toward the light and discovered an ancient pyramid hidden in the forest.
Guarding the pyramid entrance was a magnificent sphinx with the body of a lion and the head of a wise cat. The sphinx's eyes sparkled like stars.
"Welcome, brave one," the sphinx purred. "I have waited three thousand years for someone courageous enough to visit during a lightning storm."
Mittens trembled. "Why during a storm?"
"Because lightning carries magic from the sky," the sphinx explained. "Tonight, it will grant one wish to pure-hearted visitors."
Suddenly, a howl echoed through the storm. It was Barnaby, the neighbor's dog, stuck in a muddy ditch! Mittens could have ignored him and wished for anything she wanted—unlimited fish treats, a warm bed, or magical powers.
Instead, she rushed to help. Using her sharp claws, she dug and pulled until Barnaby scrambled free.
"Thank you, Mittens!" Barnaby wagged his tail. "I thought I'd be stuck forever."
The sphinx watched from the pyramid, smiling. "You have passed the true test. The lightning's magic chooses kindness over selfish wishes."
The storm's lightning flashed purple and gold, granting Mittens and Barnaby a special gift: the ability to speak with all creatures. Together, they became the best of friends, helping animals across the land while visiting their sphinx friend at the pyramid.
And every stormy night, the three friends would gather to share stories, proving that the greatest magic of all is the kindness we show to others—especially when no one is watching.
