The Sphinx's Secret Friend
Lily loved her grandmother's garden, especially the papaya tree that glowed at moonlight. One night, she reached for a golden fruit that sparkled like a tiny sun.
Suddenly, the papaya floated from her hands, growing bigger and brighter until it became a golden door. Lily stepped through into a desert under purple stars.
There, resting between two dunes, sat a sphinx with emerald eyes and wings the color of sunset clouds.
"Welcome, small one," the sphinx rumbled kindly. "I am Cleopatra. I have been waiting for someone brave enough to help."
Lily's heart fluttered. "How can I help?"
Cleopatra sighed. "My dearest friend, Little Bull, has fallen from the sky. He is a constellation bull, my guardian for a thousand years. Without him, I am lonely."
She pointed to a small creature tangled in thorny bushes—a calf with a coat like midnight and silver horns that sparkled like diamonds.
Lily knelt beside him. The little bull was frightened, his eyes wide.
"Don't worry," she whispered, stroking his starry fur. "I'll help you go home."
The papaya in Lily's pocket glowed warmly. She knew what to do.
"Climb on my back," Lily told Little Bull. Together they raced up the highest dune while Cleopatra flew above them.
At the top, Lily held the magical papaya toward the sky. "Take us home!" she called.
Golden light swirled around them, lifting Little Bull higher and higher until he became a brilliant pattern of stars in the night sky—strong and proud, exactly where he belonged.
Cleopatra wept happy tears. "Thank you, brave Lily. The stars have given you a gift."
Lily looked down at her hands—they now glowed with stardust. Whenever she felt scared, she remembered the sphinx's wisdom: true friends help each other shine.
Back in her grandmother's garden, the papaya tree still glows. And sometimes, when Lily looks up at night, she winks at the Bull constellation, and Little Bull twinkles back.
