The Sphinx's Secret Friend

sphinxzombierunning

Leo loved exploring his grandmother's overgrown garden at midnight. The moon made everything sparkle like magic. Tonight, something glowed near the old stone fountain.

There, perched on a cracked pedestal, sat a small sphinx no bigger than a cat. Her fur shimmered like stardust, and her wings sparkled with tiny crystals.

"Hello, Leo," the sphinx said in a voice like wind chimes. "I'm Cleo. Will you help me?"

Leo's eyes widened. "You can talk?"

"Of course!" Cleo fluttered her wings. "My friend Zed is lost in the maze. He's not like other creatures. People call him a zombie because he moves slowly and speaks in grumbles, but he's the kindest friend I've ever known."

"A real zombie?" Leo gasped. "Isn't that scary?"

Cleo shook her head. "Zed is just a magical gardener who tends the dreams that grow here. He's been walking for hours, looking for his way back. Will you help me find him?"

Leo nodded. Running through the maze, they searched everywhere. Finally, they heard soft grumbling near the rosebushes.

There stood Zed—a gentle figure with mossy hair, flowers growing from his pockets, and the slowest, kindest smile Leo had ever seen. "Zed!" Cleo cheered. "You're found!"

"Th-thank you," Zed whispered slowly. "I was... looking... for... the... dream... flowers..."

Leo realized Zed wasn't scary at all. He was just different, and that's what made him special. "I'll help you find them," Leo offered.

Together, the three new friends walked through the garden, gathering glowing dream flowers that Zed planted under the moonlight. Leo learned that sometimes, the things that seem scariest are actually the most wonderful—if you take the time to understand them.

"Come back tomorrow night," Cleo whispered as Leo headed home. "Zed says thank you for not running away from him just because he's different."

Leo smiled, running back to his grandmother's house, knowing he had found magic in the most unexpected friendship.
