The Sphinx's Secret Friend

Lily loved exploring her grandmother's attic. Rain drummed on the roof as she climbed the creaky stairs, her flashlight cutting through dusty shadows.

Behind an old trunk, something glimmered. A tiny statue of a sphinx, no bigger than her hand, with emerald eyes that seemed to twinkle. Curious, Lily picked it up.

"Thank you for finding me," said a small, riddle-like voice.

Lily nearly dropped it! The sphinx stretched its stone wings and yawned.

"I'm Cleo," said the sphinx. "I've been asleep for three hundred years. I'm lonely."

Lily's heart went out to the tiny creature. "I'll be your friend!"

Cleo shook her head sadly. "I need a special friendship vitamin to stay awake. It's not something you can buy at a store."

"What kind of vitamin?" Lily asked.

"The laughter vitamin," Cleo explained. "Children's laughter keeps me magical. But you must laugh together with someone else."

Lily thought hard. Her little brother Sam was downstairs, probably bored on this rainy day.

"Wait here!" Lily said.

She returned with Sam and told him about Cleo. At first Sam didn't believe her, but when he saw the tiny sphinx doing somersaults on the pillow, his eyes went wide.

Together, Lily and Sam played games with Cleo. They told jokes, made funny faces, and laughed until their sides hurt. With each giggle, Cleo's emerald eyes shone brighter.

"The friendship vitamin!" Cleo cheered. "Your laughter is feeding my magic!"

"Is that it?" Sam asked. "Just laughing together?"

Cleo smiled wisely. "That's the most powerful magic of all. Friendship is the best vitamin for your heart."

From that day on, whenever Lily and Sam needed cheering up, they knew just where to find their sphinx friend. And Cleo taught them something wonderful: the best way to make yourself happy is to share joy with others.

Because real magic isn't about potions or spells — it's about friendship and laughter shared together.
