The Sphinx's Secret Friend
In the middle of the Magic Desert stood a small sphinx named Cleo. She had the head of a cat, wings like an eagle, and the body of a lion. But Cleo was lonely. Nobody ever came to her oasis.
One day, Cleo was walking beneath the swaying palm trees when she heard a tiny voice. "Hello! Can you help me?" Cleo looked down and saw a goldfish flopping in the sand. His orange scales sparkled in the sun.
Cleo gasped. "You're far from the water!" She gently picked him up and carried him to the blue pool in the center of her oasis. The goldfish dove in with a happy splash.
"Thank you!" said the fish, whose name was Fin. "I was swimming too fast and jumped right out of my lake!" Cleo laughed, and they became best friends. Every day, Fin would tell her stories about the underwater world.
Then one morning, something strange shuffled out of the desert. It was a zombie—a slow, dusty camel with half-chewed cactus leaves stuck to his fur. Cleo hid behind Fin. But the zombie camel just looked sad.
"Water..." the zombie moaned. "So thirsty..."
Cleo understood. The zombie wasn't scary—he was just tired and thirsty! She led him to the oasis. He drank and drank, and the zombie dust washed away. Underneath, he was a regular camel named Humphrey who had been walking for days.
"Thank you," Humphrey said happily. "I'm not really a zombie. I was just dusty and slow!" Cleo, Fin, and Humphrey all laughed.
That night, Cleo realized something important: things that seem scary might just need help. And the best friends can be found in the most surprising places—even a goldfish, a sphinx, and a camel together.
