The Sphinx's Secret Friend
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's dusty attic. One rainy afternoon, she found a golden sphinx statue hidden behind old boxes. Its emerald eyes seemed to twinkle!
"I wish I had a friend to play with," Lily whispered, stroking the sphinx's stone paw.
Suddenly, the sphinx stirred! Stone cracked like eggshells, and out stepped a small sphinx no bigger than a cat, with golden fur and mighty wings. "Thank you for freeing me!" the sphinx squeaked. "I've been trapped for a thousand years!"
Lily gasped. "You're alive!"
The sphinx nodded. "I'm Sapphira. What's your name?"
"I'm Lily. This is amazing!"
Just then, Lily's fluffy dog Barnaby bounded up the attic stairs, tail wagging. But something was wrong. Barnaby usually jumped and licked her face. Today, he walked stiffly, his eyes glazed.
"Barnaby?" Lily worried. "What's wrong?"
Sapphira's emerald eyes widened. "Oh no! The zombie sleep spell! An ancient wizard cast it on all animals who打扰ed his rest. Barnaby's not sick — he's enchanted!"
"Can we help him?" Lily cried.
Sapphira thought hard. "We need three things: a feather from a happy bird, a drop of morning dew, and... a true friend's hug!"
Lily grabbed her butterfly net. "Let's go!"
Together, the girl, the sphinx, and the zombie dog ventured into the garden. They found a bluebird singing joyfully and carefully collected one dropped feather. At dawn, Lily caught dewdrops on a leaf.
"Now the hug," Sapphira said softly.
Lily wrapped her arms around Barnaby's stiff form. "I love you, buddy. You're my best friend."
Tears streamed down her cheeks. One tear splashed onto Barnaby's nose.
Suddenly, Barnaby shook himself. His eyes cleared, and he barked happily, licking Lily's face!
"You did it!" Sapphira cheered. "True friendship broke the spell!"
From that day on, Lily, Barnaby, and Sapphira had wonderful adventures. And Lily learned that the most powerful magic isn't ancient spells or golden statues — it's love, kindness, and never giving up on your friends, no matter what.
