The Sphinx's Secret Friend

Lily loved to play spy. She would creep through her backyard with toy binoculars, discovering magical secrets in ordinary places. The garden gnome was actually a frozen wizard. The oak tree was a castle guardian. Every day held a new adventure!

One afternoon, Lily's spy mission led her behind the old stone wall at the edge of her yard. There, shimmering in the golden light, stood something amazing—a tiny pyramid made of sparkling crystals, no bigger than a shoebox. And beside it sat a miniature sphinx with gemstone eyes and wings like a dragonfly.

"I've been waiting for someone like you," the sphinx said in a voice like wind chimes. "I am Cleo, guardian of the Wishing Pyramid. But I'm in terrible trouble."

Lily knelt down, her spy heart beating fast. "What kind of trouble?"

"The pyramid needs water to grant wishes," Cleo explained sadly. "But I'm too small to carry enough. Without water, all the dreams trapped inside will fade away."

Lily knew exactly what to do. She grabbed her favorite bucket and raced to the garden hose. But the water wouldn't work—it had to be special water. Rainwater collected in flower petals! Dew from morning grass!

For hours, Lily carefully gathered tiny drops of water in her cupped hands, bringing them to Cleo. Each drop made the pyramid glow brighter. Finally, as the sun began to set, the pyramid burst with brilliant rainbow light.

"You did it!" Cleo cheered, doing a happy spin. "For your kindness, you get one wish."

Lily thought carefully. "I wish..." She smiled at the lonely sphinx. "I wish for a friend who understands magic."

Cleo's gemstone eyes twinkled. "Granted. And you've already found me."

From that day on, Lily and Cleo had amazing adventures together. The best spies, they discovered, were the ones who used their powers to help others. And sometimes, the most wonderful magic was just being someone's friend.
