The Sphinx's Secret Friend

Lily loved exploring her grandmother's garden. It was full of secrets, but the biggest secret was hidden behind the old palm tree. One sunny afternoon, Lily noticed something strange—golden sparks dancing between the palm fronds.

Curious, she tiptoed closer. Her curly red hair caught the sunlight as she peeked behind the tree. There, curled up in the shadows, was a tiny sphinx the size of a kitten! His fur was shimmering gold, and his small wings fluttered nervously.

"Hello," Lily whispered, dropping to her knees. The sphinx looked up with wise amber eyes. He seemed frightened, his paws trembling.

"Are you lost?" she asked gently. The sphinx nodded, then pointed his paw toward the sky. Lily understood. He'd fallen from somewhere magical.

"I'll help you," she promised. "I'll be your friend."

The sphinx's eyes lit up, but he still looked worried. How would they reach his home? Lily thought hard. Then she remembered her grandmother's stories about magical portals. She pulled out her iPhone—Grandma let her use it for games sometimes—and opened the camera. Something incredible happened! The sphinx's reflection showed a floating castle in clouds on the screen.

"That's your home!" Lily gasped. But how to get there? The sphinx touched his nose to the phone's screen. Suddenly, golden swirls burst from the phone, wrapping around them both.

In a blink, they were standing on a cloud! A magnificent castle stood before them, surrounded by other tiny sphinxes. Her new friend's family rushed forward, hugging him with joyful chirps.

The little sphinx turned to Lily, pressing something into her hand—a golden feather that shimmered with magic. "Thank you, friend," he seemed to say without speaking.

Lily hugged him one last time before the clouds swirled again, returning her to the garden. The palm tree waved its fronds as if in greeting. Lily smiled, touching the golden feather to her hair. Some secrets were meant to be shared, and the best friends could be found in the most unexpected places.
