The Sphinx's Secret Friend
Lily was running through the attic, looking for her missing teddy bear, when she spotted something strange. An old, dusty cable curled in the corner like a sleeping snake. It shimmered with a soft golden light.
"I wonder where this goes?" Lily whispered.
She gave the cable a gentle tug. WHOOSH!
Suddenly, Lily wasn't in her attic anymore. She stood in a magical desert under purple skies. Before her rose a magnificent pyramid that glowed like amber in the sunlight.
At the pyramid's entrance sat a sphinx — a creature with the body of a lion and the head of a wise human. But this sphinx looked lonely. His golden fur was dull, and his eyes were sad.
"Hello," said Lily bravely. "I'm Lily."
"I am Amun," the sphinx rumbled. "I have guarded this pyramid for three thousand years. Many travelers pass, but none stay. They only want my treasure."
Lily reached into her pocket. "I'm not here for treasure. I brought you something."
She pulled out a bright orange from her kitchen. Amun's eyes widened. He had never seen anything so orange and round.
"What is this?" he asked.
"It's an orange! It's sweet and juicy inside. Would you like to try it?"
Lily peeled the orange and shared each segment with Amun. The sphinx's face lit up with wonder. The tangy sweetness made him smile for the first time in centuries.
"Thank you, Lily," Amun said, his fur beginning to shine golden again. "You shared with no expectation of reward. That is the greatest treasure of all."
He gave her a special necklace — a golden pyramid on a silver chain. "This will always bring you back to visit."
Every day after school, Lily would find the magical cable, give it a tug, and visit her friend Amun. They would share stories, oranges, and laughter.
Lily learned that the best adventures aren't about what you can get — they're about the friends you make along the way. And sometimes, the most magical friendships begin with something as simple as sharing an orange.
