The Sphinx's Secret Friend

Lila loved **running** through her grandmother's overgrown garden, where sunflowers towered like friendly giants and butterflies danced in the warm breeze. But her favorite spot was behind the old stone wall, where strange ivy leaves shimmered with silver light.

One afternoon, while **spying** through a crack in the stones, Lila saw something extraordinary. A creature sat upon a mossy bench—a magnificent **sphinx** with the body of a lion and the face of a wise woman. Her **hair** flowed like a waterfall of starlight, changing colors with every breath: gold, then purple, then soft pink.

"I know you're there," the sphinx said gently. Lila gasped and peeked through the crack.

"I'm sorry! I was just—"

"Curious?" The sphinx smiled. "That's how all great adventures begin."

But then a grumpy voice rumbled. "Who's there?" A fierce-looking **bull** stomped into view, his horns gleaming like polished bronze. Lila shrank back.

"This is Barnaby," the sphinx said. "He guards our secrets, but he's really quite gentle."

Barnaby huffed. "I'm NOT gentle. I'm fierce and terrifying!"

Lila giggled. "You have daisies stuck between your horns."

The bull looked so embarrassed that Lila climbed right over the wall. "I'm Lila. Are you really magic?"

The sphinx nodded. "I am Seraphina, keeper of stories. Would you like to hear one?"

For hours, Lila sat between them, listening to tales of brave children and magical creatures. When the sun began to set, Seraphina pressed something into Lila's hand—a single silver leaf.

"Come back tomorrow," she whispered. "But remember: the best secrets are meant to be shared with friends."

That night, Lila told her brother everything. The next morning, they went **running** back to the garden together, and Seraphina smiled warmly. "You've learned the most important lesson, Lila. Magic grows brighter when shared."

And from that day on, the sphinx's secret garden was never lonely again.
