The Sphinx's Secret Friend

Far away in the golden desert of Egypt, where the sun painted everything warm and orange, stood the great Sphinx. He was a giant lion with a human head, made of stone, guarding the ancient pyramid behind him for thousands of years.

The Sphinx was lonely. Travelers came to take photos and marvel at his greatness, but nobody could hear him. Nobody could be his friend. All he had was the endless sand and the mysterious pyramid he protected.

One day, something wonderful happened. A small pond had formed near his giant stone paw, filled with shimmering water from a rare desert rain. In that water swam the tiniest, most beautiful goldfish, with scales like little pieces of sunset.

"Hello there!" the Sphinx spoke, his voice rumbling like gentle thunder. "What are you doing in my desert?"

The goldfish swam to the surface and looked up with big, wonder-filled eyes. "I swam here from a faraway oasis! The water carried me on an adventure. What's your name, giant friend?"

"I am the Sphinx," he said proudly. "I guard the pyramid behind me. It holds treasures and secrets from long ago."

The goldfish splashed excitedly. "I love secrets! My grandmother said that if you look at water with a kind heart, you can see magic that others miss."

The Sphinx was curious. Nobody had ever looked at the pond with kindness before. He gazed into the water, and something amazing happened. In the reflection, he saw not just his stone face, but memories of the people who had built the pyramid—families laughing, workers singing, friends helping each other.

"I see them!" the Sphinx whispered, his stone heart feeling warm for the first time in centuries. "They were friends, just like us."

From that day on, the Sphinx was never lonely. The goldfish stayed in the pond, and together they shared stories, laughter, and the magic of seeing beauty in unexpected places. The Sphinx learned that friendship doesn't have to be big and grand. Sometimes the best friends come in the smallest packages, and the greatest treasures aren't gold or jewels—they're the connections we make with others.

And somewhere, in the shimmering water near the pyramid, a little goldfish swam happily, knowing he had found the greatest treasure of all: a friend.
