The Sphinx's Secret Friend
Lily loved exploring the desert behind her grandmother's house. One afternoon, she followed a trail of glittering stones right to the base of an ancient pyramid.
The pyramid hummed with a mysterious glow, and its stone door stood slightly open. Lily peeked inside—and gasped!
Perched on a golden pedestal sat a sphinx, but not like in her storybooks. This sphinx had soft purple fur instead of sandy brown, and instead of a fierce face, it had the gentlest eyes Lily had ever seen. The sphinx looked lonely.
"Hello," Lily whispered bravely.
The sphinx's wings fluttered in surprise. "Hello, small human. No one has visited me in three hundred years."
"Why not?"
"Because everyone expects sphinxes to be scary. They run away before they see my real self." The sphinx sighed, and a tiny tear rolled down its furry cheek.
Suddenly, the sky darkened. CRACK! BOOM! Lightning flashed across the desert, illuminating something small dashing toward the pyramid—a tiny bull no bigger than a kitten, with golden horns and a silver coat.
The bull skidded to a halt at Lily's feet. "Finally! Finally someone found us!"
"You know each other?" Lily asked, amazed.
"We're best friends," said the bull, whose name was Thunder. "But I've been stuck outside the pyramid's magic field. Only during lightning storms can I cross through!"
The sphinx's face lit up. "Thunder! You came back!"
"Every single lightning storm, I try," Thunder said, nudging Lily's hand affectionately. "But I need someone truly kind to help me break the loneliness spell on this pyramid."
Lily's heart swelled. She realized something important: sometimes the things that seem scary or different are actually just waiting for a friend.
"I'll help," Lily promised, taking the sphinx's paw and Thunder's tiny hoof. "Everyone deserves a friend."
Together, the three of them touched the pyramid's ancient stones. MAGIC swirled around them—purple, gold, and silver light blending together. The pyramid's doors opened wide, and the desert came alive with wonder.
The sphinx wasn't trapped anymore. Thunder could visit anytime. And Lily had discovered something magical: that friendship is the strongest magic of all, and it comes in the most unexpected packages—even purple sphinxes and lightning bulls.
