The Sphinx's Secret Friend
Leo was running through the park, his favorite red hat flying off his head. He caught it just as lightning flashed across the dark sky. Thunder rumbled like a giant's tummy ache.
"Hello, little one," said a deep, kind voice.
Leo looked around. No one was there. Then he saw it—a small stone sphinx, the size of a cat, with lion paws and a wise face. But now the sphinx was moving!
"I've been watching you," the sphinx said. "I spy with my stone eyes a kind heart. Every day, I see you running to help others."
Leo's eyes grew wide. "You... you can talk?"
The sphinx nodded. "I am the Guardian of Kindness. For one hundred years, I've been waiting for someone like you. Someone who helps not because they must, but because they want to."
Another lightning bolt flashed, and this time it swirled around the sphinx like a golden ribbon.
"The lightning shows me magic is real tonight," the sphinx said. "Leo, will you be my friend? Together, we could do wonderful things."
Leo smiled, feeling brave. "Yes! But what things?"
"Secret things," the sphinx winked. "We could be secret spies of kindness. Finding people who need help, then helping them before they even know we were there."
Leo's heart soared. A secret adventure with a magical sphinx friend!
"Put on your hat, Leo," the sphinx said. "Our first mission awaits."
And as the rain began to fall, Leo and the sphinx set off into the night, ready to make the world a little kinder, one secret mission at a time.
The best magic, Leo learned that night, isn't about powers or spells. It's about using what you have to help others. And sometimes, the most wonderful friends come from the most unexpected places.
