The Sphinx's Secret Friend

Lily loved storms. While other children hid under blankets when thunder rumbled, she pressed her nose against the window, watching the sky dance with lightning.

One evening, as rain pattered against her bedroom window, something magical happened. In her garden below, the old stone sphinx statue began to glow. Lily couldn't believe her eyes! The sphinx stretched its wings and shook off centuries of dust.

Curious and brave, Lily tiptoed downstairs and slipped into the garden. The sphinx's golden eyes twinkled like stars.

"Hello, little one," the sphinx said gently. "I've waited many years for someone brave enough to visit during a storm."

Just then, a tiny bear cub tumbled out from behind the sphinx's paws. But this wasn't an ordinary bear – its fur shimmered like captured lightning, crackling softly with tiny sparks.

"This is Bolt," said the sphinx. "Long ago, a bolt of magical lightning struck the earth, and from its spark, Bolt was born. He guards the night, turning storms into light shows that chase away children's fears."

Bolt nuzzled Lily's hand with his warm nose, leaving tiny tingles, like touching a battery but sweeter.

"Will you help us tonight?" the sphinx asked. "Many children are scared of this storm. We need to show them that lightning can be beautiful, not frightening."

Lily nodded bravely. Together, they climbed to the roof. Bolt raised his paws, and with each flicker of real lightning in the sky, he created brilliant bursts of colored light – purple, green, golden sparks that danced and swirled like magical fireflies.

Across town, children stopped hiding. They pressed against windows, smiling at the beautiful light show.

"Being brave doesn't mean you aren't scared," the sphinx whispered. "It means helping others even when you are."

That night, Lily learned that courage is like lightning – powerful, bright, and capable of turning darkness into something beautiful.

Every storm after that, Lily would wave to her garden, where a glimmering sphinx and her lightning-bear friend painted the sky with magic, just for the brave children who were watching.
